Laser

Hi there, well when I was 8 months old I was diagonosed with catract in Lagos, Nigeria. So was operated for the same in London at the age of 8 months back in the year 1981. After the operation, I had to wear spectacles & it started with a very high number of +22 which has come down to +11.5 now over the years.

I also have a lazy eye in my left eye at the momen & very less vison in the left eye. My main concern is about the lazy eye, since i dont mind spending the rest of my life with just 1 eye since I have got used to it. Itz just that people tend to notice the lazy eye as my power is high +11.5 & the eye gets magnified as soon as I wear the spectacles & even a slight abnormal behaviour of the  lazy eye is noticed by people since my work involves me to interact wih so many people. I come across so many embassasing situations & loads of people speaking behind my back.

My question?? Is it it possible to get some kind of a lasser treatment as I cannot go thru the inconv of contact lenses everyday. I consulted 2 majors docs here in India & they stated tht laser is not possible in my case since my eye was operated at the age of 8 months & therez no provison for them to inplant lenses.

Can you justify this & if you think surgery is possible, then please recomend where exactly can I get that sorted out. Thank you for taking time out to reply to me.

Have a nice day..

Yes you are right probably there is no acceptable treatment for the problem with my eyes.

With regards to making the glasses thin, I have already looked into that aspect & have made many glass lenses, the problem that I havecome across is that incase they make the lense very thin, then it tends to be a curve kind of a vison while I am looking through the lense. Which means that from left to right of a lense the vison would not be straight, it  infact tends to get curved from the sides. Please note I am not refering now just about the cosmetic part of the lense that is curved, I am specifically stating that the vison itself tends to be curved kind of a vison, because of the lense being thin.

So to conclude, if the power is +11.5, then there is no way you can make the lense not to magnify or with less manification. The only other alternative which one of the doc sugeested is that I shiould opt part of the power in the contact lense & the remaining part in the glass lenses. This means I would end up wearing spectacles & contact lenses, which is really inconv. My eyes are also too sensitive for contact lenses.

More so ever I am wearing bifocals.

Thanks for your reply anyways. Have a nice day ahead..

If you only have good vision in one eye and the other has severe amblyopia it is probably not a good idea to put a secondary intraocular lens (IOL) into your eye. Lasik, CK and other refractive procedures will not normally correct the amount of hyperopia you have.

I suspect that given what you were told by the Eye MDs that examined you that there is no acceptable treatment for your problem.

You might discuss with an optician (glasses maker) how to make your glasses thinner and have less magnifying appearance.
