Lasik Surgery: Micro-wrinkles

by mako88sb, Aug 14, 2007 03:52AM
I had my eyes worked on about 10 years ago. Definite improvement but still a bit blurry. Over the next 2 or 3 years, I had the procedure done 2 more times in a attempt to get better results. My doctor informed me that for some reason, I kept developing these micro-wrinkles and that's why I still ended up with my vision being a bit off.

He had me try non-prescription hard contact lenses and this seemed to smooth out the wrinkles because I could read the bottom line of the eye chart. I never bothered wearing them however as my eyes just couldn't get used to them. It's been about 5 years since I last seen him and I really would like to get this dealt with. Just curious if problems like this have been documented and if there's a procedure to rectify it? Thanks.

Mild micro wrinkles (striae) after lasik are not unusual but they usually do not cause symptoms.  the hard contact lens reduces the wrinkles by filling in the area between the contacts and the wrinkles with tears but it only helps when the contacts are on your eyes.  there are ways to reduce the wrinkles, at times smoothing them out with the laser, if they are severe enough.  You need an evaluation by an experienced LASIK surgeon. try to get a recommendation from an eye md (ophthalmologist) in your area who doesn't perfrom LASIK.

Thanks for the info. When you say they usually do not cause symptoms, I take it you mean that it does not affect the persons vision?
