Lasik and development of cataracts

by LydCB, Oct 30, 2008 03:05PM
2 yrs ago I had lasik, my vision has changed enough to require glasses, but now I have a developing cataract in one eye, is there any link between lasik and cataracts? I will soon need surgery for the cataract....is there any additional risk because of the previous lasik?
thank you....

Lasik has not been associated with cataracts. however many people have lasik near or at the time that cataracts become rather common. No lasik does not increase the risk of surgery and picking the right power IOL is not possible.
