Lasik surgery post retinal surgery

by Jack5450, Oct 17, 2008 08:45PM
Thank you for your answers thus far.  In brainstorming here tonight I wonder if Lasik surgery may prevent a retinal detachment from occurring again?  My prescription is a -11.5 and I understand that that dramatically changes the shape of my eye and my retina has more tension due to stretching.  Does Lasik re-shape the eye? And if so, would it relieve the tension and possibly prevent another retinal detachment?  I've had RD surgery but am only 39 years old.  I wonder if the RD surgery is a fix to last what I hope to be a long lifetime?

Lasik does NOT reduce the risk of a RD because it does not shorten the eye only flatten the cornea. Moreover there is a very small risk of a PVD or even RD with lasik. Very very small but still there.
