Lattice Degeneration

Wanted to get Lasik done, but on visit to eye doctor I found out that I have lattice degeneration on my left eye while my right eye is perfectly fine. Dr. suggested that I should get laser done and lasik can be followed in month or so. My question if I get my laser done are there any chances in future for any more tears in retina? If I don't go for laser will there be any future retina or any other eye related problems?? Thanks for your help.

Use the search feature and archives to read about lattice, about its relationship to lasik and retinal breaks.

I have lattice. It occurs in about 7-8% of people. Treatment is usuallynot needed but in high myopia, before LASIK, after trauma, or lattice with big holes laser and/or freezing treatment is often indicated.

Lasik can cause retinal breaks in lattice which could cause a retinal detachment.

Even if these areas are closed other areas of lattice can develop.

Most people the lattice doesn't cause any problems and I see it virtually every day in clinic
