Lattice and vitreous detachment

Hi, I'm 30. I was experiencing new large floaters with occasional flashes. Went to eye doc and he found thin spots on the edges of my retinas (both eyes) which I guess is referred to as lattice degeneration.

Was referred to a retina specialist. He confirmed the lattice and also found that my left eye was experiencing early vitreous detachment. He said that is what was causing the floaters and flashes. There were no tears, or holes.

He said he could do preventative laser treatment in the left eye to strengthen the weak spots, but said it was up to me since there were no tears. I had no idea so asked him his recommendation. He said if it were his eye, he would do it.

I decided to go ahead and do it because they seemed to be so nonchalant about it, it seemed like a no brainer. The treatment was painful enough though that I decided to research it after the fact and discovered lots of possible side effects and reasons not to do it.

If there are any doctors reading this, what is your opinion? Did I make the right decision? If I develop similar symptoms in my right eye, would you recommend doing it again?

Thank you.

I had three brown spots on my left lower eye since as young as I can remember, my mom said I was born with them. I have been on a strict non dairy, no meat, blood type hog-pog life style change, that I tweek depending on the state of my health. I have lupus. Not only does this diet keep me going, but I noticed just last week two of the spots are gone and the third is just a dark pin point. Your eyes, teeth, like your feet and hands are connected to your entire nervous system, your body reflects your health. The healthier I eat the more I am amazed at how it effects me.

You've made your decision so don't second guess. I have lattice in both eyes, without holes/tears and opted not to treat.  The treatment will not get rid of the floaters.  Lattice is very common maybe 5% of the population so most cases do not need treated.  Most likely to need RX: High myopes, family hx of RD, multiple holes or signs of vitreous traction, superior temporal location, person involved in contact sports.
