my daughter is 17 years old. she has been told at the age of approximately
13 that she has lattice in her eyes. just recently, at her yearly eye appointment, she was told that she has developed a hole in the lattice of her left eye and she was referred to a specialist. we saw the specialist who told
her that the hole was large enough for concern and needs laser surgery.
she has lattice in her right eye as well with multiple tiny pin-holes but the right eye does not need surgery, yet, and should be monitored. the right eye may need prophylactic surgery possibly in the next decade.
she has no floaters, she does not complain of any light flashes but has complained once in the past of what she referred to as a wavy, watery, tunnel-like ring of vision in her periphery.
by what percent does this increase her risk, in comparison with a normal retina, for retinal detachment?
How common is this in someone of her age?
What other associated factors or diseases can predispose her to such a condition?
How effective is laser surgery.
will this surgery be totally corrective and will she have to continually have
surgery for correction from this point on?
what are her risks if we do nothing?
should i get a second opinion? I fear for her. what to do?

Thanks for the answer.
My lattice is on the very outer border of the retina, is still a risk of messing up with the macula causing a pucker?
Thanks again.
I don't think the lattice is causing this and I don't think laser will fix it.
The indication for treatment of lattice degeneration is an association with an acute retinal tear. The main complication of treatment of an acute retinal tear is macular pucker and retinal detachment, about 5 %.
Get another opinion.
