Legally Blind

by 4grandkids, Sep 09, 2007 10:08AM
I had emergency surgery for detached retina.  There was some improvement but then it stopped and I have digressed.  I have been told by my doctor I am legally blind and will see another doctor for prisms.  What is legally blind mean and do prisms really work?

Unfortunately not all retinal detachment surgery results in restoration of normal vision.  so your retina can be attached but you may not recover all of your central vision and if you cannot see even the large E with glasses, that is one of the definitions of legal blindness.  The only reason you would need prism glasses is if you are seeing double and yes they do work as long as the separation of images is not too great.  They will not improve your legal blindness in that eye.
