Lid Hygiene after Cataract Surgery

Lid Hygiene after Cataract Surgery

My severe dry eyes have been under control for 18 years with the use of punctal plugs and daily lid scrubs.  My primary problem is Miebomian Gland Dysfunction and I manage that will daily lid scrubs using baby shampoo.  I need to do this 4 times a day to rid my lashes of the oily gook they produce.  If I don't do the lid scrubs, my eyes burn and are very dry and irritated.  I've been doing this routine for 18 years.

I am having cataract surgery and I am so worried about how I am going to get this gook off my eyes without baby shampoo srubs 4 times a day.  The literature says you cannot touch or press your eye or get water into them for fear of infection. How will I be able to remove this debris from my eyes after cataract surgery?  I'm quite certain that if I don't my eyes would soon be infected from all the oily burny debris on my lashes.

Hopefully you can help answer my question.
Thank you

Please discuss this with your surgeon.  I would also consider treatment with Azasite or doxycline prior to surgery.
