Low Eye Pressure from trauma

Low Eye Pressure from trauma

My elderly father experienced an eye injury in Sept. 08 where his eye does not seem to want to increase in pressure. His Opthomologist tells him there is not much he can do after all this time has lapsed. Does anyone have any ideas, procedures, meds or another professional he can consult in Los Angeles area you can refer me to?
He just lost mother after 50 years and now his vision that is only exacerbating/manifiying his mental state downward. I have been on the net at other sites where not alot of results.
Any information you can provide would be most appreciated in advance !
Take care and thanks!

I wonder what kind of injury.  If it is a severe trauma, as I am imagining, the low pressure (hypotony) may be only one of many problems.  He could have had a detached retina, loss of the lens, iris damage and more?  Sometimes, steroid drops like Pred Forte can help raise the pressure, or if there is a leak from the eye pressure bandages and bandage contact lens or autologous serum or further surgery can help to seal the leak.  If there is a choroidal effusion syndrome, steroid drops even steroid pills can sometimes help and in the proper situation, strong dilating drops like atropine can be useful.  It's a complex case and requires individual attention from a retinal surgeon and a comprehensive ophthalmologist - but generally in this type of situation, if he may have a very damaged eye with only a limited prognosis for useful vision.  Perhaps, he is not as bad as I am making out?
