MACULAR HOLE IN ONE EYE CAN LEAD TO OTHER GOOD EYE GETTING A HOLE?

A macular hole was detected in my right eye about 5 years ago and I have been on Lutein Tablets. The cause of the hole I think was because I had been punched badly. I have been going for my yearly checkups.  On the last visit i.e. last week i was told by the opthalmologist that I have sign of cataract on both eyes but not yet ready, and because of that I will have to go for checkups after 6 months.  Well according to the doctor he told that the cataract has also to be removed from the eye with the macular hole or else it will lead to Glaucoma.  I was also told that because I have a hole in one eye, I can also get a macular hole in the good eye.  This is quite worrying to me.  Well during the 5 years visit none of the opthalmologists told me as such.  Please kindly advise and what care I should take of my condition.

Thanks/Regards - Zainab

In less than 2 years I have had 4 macular holes... Two in each eye.  I am now 63 and assume I will get more holes.  I am now legally blind and definately not legal to drive.  I don't have central vision in bad eye but do have central vision in my better eye.  I actually can read with thick reading glasses with my better eye.  This whole situation really ***** but what can one do about it?

Anyone can get a macular hole. Anyone that has a hole in one eye can get a cataract in the other.  See another retina surgeon for an opinion about cataract surgery on the 'good' eye
