Macular Hole surgery unsuccesful

by MaryCD, Oct 04, 2008 01:40PM
Six years ago, I had macular hole surgery, not successful.  (Unbeliveably, my dr. said "head down position" was not necessary - now I know better.)  My left eye is still bad (right eye is OK, 20/10).  Can this surgery be repeated?  What happens if I do not have another vitrectomy?

Dear MaryCD,

I would recommend that you seek the care of a retinal specialist to determine the benefits and risks of treating the macular hole, given your history of prior surgery and the length of time.  Additionally, the head down position is not always utilized and may be dependent upon the status of your natural lens.

That sounds terrible. Have you done a search here on MH surgery?
The doctor here can give you more info, but she will also say to get checked by a retinologist, if you have not already, If you have not, ask us how to find a good one.

Best,
Anna
