Macular degeneration question

Macular degeneration question

I have been diagnosed with macular degeneration by two different doctors (retina specialists). This was diagnosed when I was 12 years of age. Neither of the doctors have done anything about it, all they say is come back in a year- I recently had a full eye exam by someone else to get new glasses and was given a very strong prescription. Question is, with something like macular degeneration, do retina specialists normally just sit around and do nothing, or what?

---Sorry if this was misunderstandable.--
