Meibomian Gland Dysfunction

by fml99, Aug 12, 2009 04:13PM
I'm 16 years old and just got diagnosed with mgd.  I'm a young girl and I always like to wear eye makeup.  I want to know if this condition will go away FOR GOOD.  I've had symptoms for over three weeks and got diagnosed about two and a half weeks ago.  The doctor first told me to only use hot compresses and lid scrubs.  Then she added thrombomycin drops.  Now she took me off the drops and I'm about to start erythromycin and I'm on tetracyclin and I'm using artificial tears and lid scrubs.  I also did some research online and started taking Omega-3 supplements.  Will this condition go away for good and will it be ok for me to use make-up again?

Dear fm199,

The oil glands may be affected by many conditions such as diet, hormones, infection.  I would recommend that you continue the treatment and not use makeup until this condition resolves.  It may or may not be chronic; however, it should be able to be improved so that you can begin wearing makeup again.
