Micropthalmia

I am an Indonesian. I have a 2 year old son with micropthalmia on both his eyes and cataract in his left eyes since he was born. I have taken my son to ophthalmologists in Indonesia, but the information from them didn't satisfy me. What should I do to help my son? Is there a tratment for his eyes? Is there any support group for this problem?

Unfortunately, this is a difficult situation.  It is not common to have two microphthalmic eyes.  It may be possible to have the cataract and vitreous removed from the more normal shaped eye.  I would recommend a retina specialist with advanced training for further evaluation.  There are certainly support group in the US for thoses with severely impaired vision but I am not sure if there are any web sites.  I suspect there are and you can surf the web.  I would  again suggest finding a retina specialist for consultation.  If you can make it to the US I can give you some names.  Good luck.
