Military vision criteria

Military vision criteria

Hello,

I'm looking into joining the French Foreign Legion next year but have bad eyesight. -0.6 in left eye and -.07 in right. My eyesight was acceptable enough for the U.S. Army (time served), but I'm not sure if it's good enough for the Foreign Legion. I wrote them and this is what they told me...

"Your eyes must meet the following minimum criteria:

without correction, or [7 / 10 and 2 / 10] or [6 / 10 and 3 / 10] or [5 / 10 and 4 / 10]

Correction in dioptres: for myopia: -10 / for hyperopia: 8"

What does this mean?? Concidering my vision above, do I meet the criteria? Thank you all so much in advance, I really appreciate your help!

You have not given a prescription that is equivalent to "bad" eyesight.  You have given values that are milder than -1 (which is 1 unit of nearsightedness).  IF you really meant to type -6 and -7 then is appears that you are not ruled out just based on the strength of the your prescription, since their cut-off is -10.

The other numbers you give mean nothing.  They are not equivalent to any visual acuity system I have seen.
