I have done mini monovision with one my nondominant eye set for intermediate distance with a monofocal IOL and my dominant eye is for distance (currently with a contact, until I decide to have surgery on my second eye, which only has a minor cataract at present.) This works well and was not hard to adjust to. I do need glasses for reading. There are a number of posts on this forum, from myself, JodieJ, Dr. Hagan and others about this issue.
Good luck with your mom.

Dear Trellaine,
Monovision refers to a correction of one’s eyes so that one eye is corrected for distance and the other one for reading. Mini-monovision would mean less of a disparity between the eyes but the ability to obtain more of a range of vision.
