Mono Vision or Not?

I had Lasik surgery two months ago to correct near sightedness in both eyes.  I had begun to need reading glasses as I am now 44 years old and I did not want to wear bi-focals.

I had a bad experience two days after Lasik when I had to get both eye flaps refloated to correct wrinkles or stryia (not sure correct spelling).  This refloating experience was not pleasant and took a couple of weeks to really recover from.

Now two months later I see 20/25 in my left eye.  It is very slightly still near sighted but I would need reading glasses if only using this one eye -- I see pretty well for distance with this eye.  My right (Dominant) eye is at best 20/30 but maybe even 20/35.  It however is still nearsighted enough that I actually see up close pretty good with it.
One doctor recommends waiting one more month and then getting enhancement Lasik on the right eye.  I went to a second eye doctor for a second opinion.  He said he would keep eyes as they are -- basically, I would have MonoVision even though it was not what was planned.  He said my right eye (being 20/30 as he said) was so close to being good that it would be very hard for the Lasik Enhancement procedure to FINE Tune this small of an amount.

I can see OK at a distance (but would prefer it be a bit better).  I can also see up close to read newspaper and books OK.  I get very bad Dry Eye when working on the computer but am not sure if this is due to bad vision or just the Lasik surgery.  However, if I got the enhancement I am OK wearing reading glasses as I know I would probably need this.

I just want to have the best distance and close vision possible.  The monovision worries me a bit in that my dominant eye sees best up close and the non-dominant eye sees at a distance (this seems the reverse of what most eye doctors recommend). My distance vision is also very blurry for 10 min. or so after I read for 30 min. or longer.

What should I do?  Please help.
Thanks, JDT

This forum cannot tell you what to do or make a diagnosis. As a generalization given the data your presented I would tend to go with the recommendation to leave things as they are.

Can Lasik surgery enhancement make very small improvement in eyesight.  My doctor recommends getting one of my eyes enhanced after Lasik.  One eye (non dominant one)is 20/25 and I am OK with that but do wish to see better at a distance overall.  The other dominant eye is 20/30 at best and does not see at distance well at all but does see up close pretty good.

Can enhancement on the dominant eye fine tune things enough for it to get to 20/20 even though it is already somewhat close at 20/30.

I am considering just leaving things alone but after two months just still can't quite get my brain to understand the monovision I have now.  I am beginning to lean to getting goot distance vision in both eyes and just getting some reading glasses for up close vision.

How small of fine tuning can enhancement make?  How long does it take to really get used to monovision?  I know you can't make diagnosis but any info to help me make a decision would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, JDT

Because of your age any improvement that you make to your distant vision will make your near vision worse by an equal OR GREATER amount. (robbing Peter to pay Paul).

No matter what you do you will become more dependent on glasses as you age and at some time will use progressive bifocals some or most of the time.
