I've read your posts with interest & know of your bad ReStor experience. With your monofocals, how well have you been able to put in eye drops, & examine the external parts of your own eyes (I have other eye issues as well, and sometimes lashes fall out & get in my eyes, so that's my concern re: monofocals. Thank you!
The patient education video at www tecnisiol com explains the benefits of aspheric (vs. conventional) IOLs.
Monofocal IOLs can be set for mini-monovision. With a little luck, you'd only need glasses for prolonged reading or seeing small print (like disappointed66).
My experience goes back to July when I had the multifocal lens( Restor) implanted in my left eye. Not good results. I could not see anything clearly at any distance or close The light glare and starburst light effect at night made it impossible for me to drive..The surgeon wanted to do all kinds of other things to an otherwise healthy eye to correct this. I changed surgeons, I had the lense explanted after one month and exchanged with a Tecnis aspheric monofocal lens for distance and a month later the right eye done with a little stronger lens... The results have been terrific. I can see close, intermediate ,great distance, and night driving is excellent.
I only need "readers" for small print.and I was told I might need them with the multifocal lens also. I would not recommend multifocal lenses. They are overpriced and over-rated. This is just my experience. (and many others) If you click on my user name you can read addition post regarding multifocal and monofocal. Get more than one opinion from a profession eye MD.and ALL the facts. Good luck
disappointed66 (not disappointed anymore)
Thanks Dr.O for your post. Two other question: what are the complications most commonly occurring with the monofocal IOL's and what is the difference between aspheric and "standard" monofocal IOL's?

The expectations are the main difference. Patients expect to wear glasses with monofocal IOLs compared to less dependence on glasses with multifocal IOLs or Crystalens. An error in target can be corrected with the glasses correction. Multifocal has more glare and halos.
