Monovision for One Eye Cataract

Any opinions on monovision for my situation:

Age: 37
Cataract: in Right eye (Dominant eye)
Left eye: 20/20 vision
lifestyle: Work at the computer all day but an active person who enjoys things like skiing and softball

Would like to be able to see both far and near without spectacles but may not get that option...

My thoughts thus far after research...

Multifocal lenses do not work well with one eyed cataract patients. So I am thinking my next best choice would be to do the mini monovision...BUT have read that usually the dominant eye is set for far...and I was hoping to set it near so that when my vision starts to fail in my left eye (I have been told that eventually you use your near sight as your eye ages) I could still read with my right..

Does the dominant eye have to be set for far?
Is this procedure recommended for a one eyed cataract patient?
If this is not recommended what is the second best option?

Have seen 3 different opthamologists and all of them have differing opinions...I feel lost..

Here's my suggestion:  set your right eye for distance vision with an aspheric monofocal IOL.  This will give you excellent vision at all distances at this time, since you can use your left eye for near and intermediate vision.  In a few years when you start having problems seeing small print, wear a contact lens in your left eye to correct this.  You will have to increase the power of the contact lens over time to maintain good near/intermediate vision.  If/when you develop a cataract in your left eye, you will already be accustomed to monovision.
