Mr. Dave

I have what have been called floaters and I did have PVD a couple of years ago.  My eyes have continued to get worse as far as more floaters - large opaque pieces and I do see a quick flash in my direct vision and I believe that is from these floaters moving around.  I look down and these lines - floaters muve up and I look up and then back down and here they come from the top - not specks but larger pieces - likne the inside of my eys was pealing.  My eyes do cloud up at times where it is foggy - hazy and I can't see as far but after a while they clear back up.  Much of the time when I look straight ahead and don't move I am ok but I at other times I have to move my eyes to clear things out of the way. Sometimes my eys heart and I think it is from these floaters moving around.   I am 55 now and have had the probelm for three years and would think I should be 70 for this to happen.  I do work on computers nine hous a day and have for twenty years.  This all started after a first time only bad sinus infection.  Anyway, is there anyway that these could have been caused by a fungal infection and would I have these similiar symptoms?

Thanks

You need to separate the symptoms related to WAY too much computer use (sore, tired, intermittantly blurry eyes) and symptoms related to vitreous floaters and vitreous detachment (floaters in vision, intermittant flashes.)  Either way you should see a good  ophthalmologist to make sure there are no retinal tears or detachments or vitrous traction.  You may well need some treatment as well for chronic dry eyes and computer vision syndrome.  WHen you are on computer, your eyes don't blink enough and tear film and cornea dry eye making eyes tired, blurry, irritable and sore.  Artificail tears, frequent breaks, and other treatments can help.

My advice is to get to an opthomologist very quickly.  To me, seeing flashes is a red flag that needs to be investigated.  I have had surgery for detached retina so my advice is to get to an eye doctor NOW>
