My Eyes are having hard time focusing with new glasses

I just went to the eye doctor after 20 years of not wearing glasses.  I did wear glasses when I was a young teenager and the last time I wore them was when I was 15 years old.  I am nearsighted and started to really notice that my vision was getting worse in the past couple of years.  Finally, I could not take it anymore and went to the eye doctor.  My new prescription is

Right Eye = SPH (-4.00)  CYL (-1.00) AXIS (15)
Left Eye = SPH (-2.00)   CYL (-1.00) AXIS (75)

Apparently this is a pretty strong presciption for someone who has not worn glasses for a long time.

I find that I can see much better with my glasses but I feel as if my eyes are pulling out and having a very hard time focusing on objects.  I also feel as if things are farther in the distance and am having a very hard time judging actual distance.  When I remove my new glasses, everything is blurry but looks larger.  Is this a normal thing?  Am I going to live the rest of my life unable to judge actual size or distance?  Will my eyes pull out of my head?  What is going on with this?  I do not want to stop wearing glasses but I am afraid I might fall down stairs or misjudge the distance of a bus when I cross the street.

I just answered a question from you about tearing.  Yes it is unusual to start out with strong of a RX and your glasses could be too strong. When you see the eye MD ophthalmologist. Ask them to do a "post cycloplegic refraction" to be sure your glasses are not too strong, that often happens in a young person if the glasses test is done before drops are put in the eye.
