My Vision After Cataract Surgery???

I'm almost 28 days post cataract surgery on my right eye. My understanding was I would get a monofocal IOL for distance and LRI to correct for mild astigmatism.  I have no issues with post op infection or inflamation. Using drops as directed.

1) At this point I don't have what I consider distance vision.  I would call it intermediate vision. I focus best at arms length to about a distance of 6 feet.  At a distance of about five (5) feet, I could read the 25 ft line on the Snellen chart.  Is this it, or will my distance vision in this eye improve over time? If not, could this be a function of incorrect eye measurements and consequently wrong lens power?

2) Also when I cannot focus, I see double and straight lines become wavy. Print can sort of look like italics.  I assume this is because of my astigmatism. I thought the LRI corrected for this.  Or will this correction take time?

3) And last but not least, existing wrinkles look exaggerated,  It is driving me crazy. When I view them through my left eye with glasses, they look superficial. When I view them through my right eye, they look deeper and more exaggerated. I don't know which view is correct. I'm hoping the former. The same goes for textured material. The texture looks different when I view it through my right eye (IOL) then when I view it through my left eye using my existing glasses. Could this lens be distorting my vision?

I hope you can shed some light on the above.  At this point I'm hesitant about getting my other eye done. Thank you

I have no specific experience with that lens but do know what you describe could happen with any multifocal lens.  Give it a little bit of time and see what your options are (may require a second opinion to make sure you do the right thing).  If you do have dry eyes, it is likely to get better with time.  Do put in preservative free artificial tears multiple times a day for now.  you may also consider putting in some over the counter eye ointment at bedtime until you are better ( I personally like Muro 128 ointment or Genteal gel).

IOL lentis multifocal lens replacement probs! I am now in my fifth week after surgery. My near vision isnot as good as it should be but my didstance is good. Ghosting is severe and gives me probs at night driving. I get letters in italics sometimes as well and ghosting. I was told that i was unlucky and that my lens was not sitting on my eye correctly-what does this mean and what can be done? Also and more distressing for me is the fact that my eyes are terribly sore! Everyone i have spoken to ie optometrist etc say my eyes are dry. Will this go away as it is dreadful. I have avoided preservative drops but not much gives relief. Has anyone else had this sore painful experience?

I felt exactly the same thinking everything i.e did the surgeon put the left eye prescription in my right eye by mistake, or his the lens tilting wrong,or refraction measurement completely out i thought there is no way this should be like this like watery vision, this was up to 3.4months ..just ride it out and keep calm you looking for a least 3.5months to 4months for big improvement, gets even sharper at 6 months,if they said fit is good , every things looking fine, just ride it out, even tho it gets you down etc,it should get better,if the vision is not as good as you want it after 6months then think of having excimer laser touchup,or lens change which you dont want,my stress on eye..but i dont think you will need that anyway..

Dear Dr. Vosoghi:

Thank you for your prompt reply to my post. I'll try to be patient and give it more time as you suggest. However, if my vision problems turn out to be the result of improper eye measuements and/or residual astigmatism, what viable options for correction are available to me beyond glasses.

Thank you.

Be patient and wait for your doctor to tell you whether the measurements may have been off a bit.  Have your surgeon do an OCT of the macula to make sure you do not have swelling in the macula.  Things may improve a bit over the next 8 weeks, beyond that any residual problems is from IOL measurement and residual astigmatism.

Hi Jaysta36

Thanks for your encouraging comments about the time it takes to heal and get full vision. It put my mind at ease.

The lines I see aren't as you describe. They are just wavy lines when the print is at an an unfocusable distance for me . Like the lines of an E will become wavy and slanted and I also see it double.  I think the astigmatism is causing this???

Thanks again for taking the time to reply.

hi your vision as mine at this point it took up 3,5months for vision to get better, then to about 5.3monthe to get 20-15 vision in both eyes ,the lines you are seeing are they like white thine lines noticing them when you blink looking out of a dull room into sunlight through window or when looking at pc screen if so there are caused by irdotomtry holes, they will fade over time, but can stay with you,you have along way to go yet least up to 6 months just hold in there get better
