My floater = torn retina

My floater = torn retina

Posted By Allen on July 27, 1999 at 23:12:11
This past Saturday a "floater" appeared in my left eye. I've had floaters before but this one would cause blurry vision from time to time. I did some searching for info on floaters on the web. Those searches may have saved my vision. After reading some info I determined it was best to get it checked out immediately by my opthamologist.
The doctor found that the floater was blood from a tear in my retina. I was sent to a retina specialist who used a laser to hopefully seal the tear. Had I not had this done a retinal detachment could have been next. My next appointment is Wednesday afternoon.
Needless to say, I'm very nervous. There is a chance the retina could still detach. The doctor is also going to check out my right eye for any beginning tears. Have any of you gone through this? What can I expect over the next few days, weeks?
I strongly encourage all of you who have had a recent obvious floater appear to get it checked out. As I mentioned, mine was a lot different from the usual specks floating around. This one distorted my vision off and on in my left eye.
Any info would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Allen
