My kid is high myopic

My 20 month old has -8.0 power on both eyes. We came to know that only last month. Nobody in my family or my husband’s family is myopic. We are so shocked to know this. Is there any treatment for my kid. Doctor prescribed glasses for her and we are trying to make her wear them. Will the power increase by age? At what minimum age retinal damage can be detected? Any food or medicine that can make my kid better and improve vision?

I assume this rx was prescribed by a pediatric ophthalmologist. (S)He will most likely recheck in the near future.
