Myelinated retinal nerve fibre and myopia

Hi
Had gone for routine check eye check up and retina check up here in USA , in the retina scan of right eye there was little white spot adjacent to optic nerve. Came to know it was myelinated retinal nerve fiber.I had checked my retinas before also and the doctors in India never mentioned about this MRNF and have always said my retina are healthy. My doubt is have i had this MRNF from birth or there chances of it developing recently in my eye?  Is this of any concern? My eye power is right eye -7 and left eye -6.5. My power is stable from past 15 years and other than noticing few floaters in eye there are no other problems. As am pregnant (16 weeks) worried will it cause any risks during labor and delivery, Is there a need to go to retina specialist?

Doctor,
I am feeling some sensation of vibration/shivering/flickering(I am not sure what is right word) its like how you experience when sunlight falls on moving water and it reflects light somewhat like that...i see this kind in too much bright light and dim/low light, and it also happens when I see some complex patterns like blinds, patterns on a rug etc..vision is not constant..its vibrating...I usually sense this in periphery of my eye, I mean to say its not in my central vision
I had checked my eyes in December with opthamalogist and he said my eyes were fine and he couldn't give a convincing answer for my problem which I have mentioned to you here
I am 33 years old, highly myopic-7 and -6.5 and have lots of floaters and this is new symptom I am experiencing from 2 to 3 months
I am getting worried and I don't know what to do abt it
1. Is this of concern? Is there a need to go neuro-opthamalogist or any other specialist?
2.what could be the reason I am experiencing this ?
3.I am planning to get pregnant(2nd child) and all this symptoms is making me worry and not able to decide to go on with pregnancy and I feel my eyes have changed and getting sensitive and weaker with time...but I am not sure if its related to pregnancy or is it because of my age..
4.I got lot of floaters during post partum/ breast feeding time with my first kid so I am concerned how my eyes change during and after 2nd pregnancy..will there be any drastic changes? Can I have normal delivery this time too?

A second opinion would be quite helpful. It will probably be easier to find a retina specialist Eye MD so I would start there. If that exam is normal ask the retina Eye MD where you should go from there. No way anyone can tell you what another pregnancy would be like.

Hi doctor..
I am experiencing a new symptom from few weeks.. I can feel my vision is flickering in low lit room I feel at bottom of eyes there is some liquid moving like feeling(it's like how the water moves when a small stone is thrown inside it) I do not feel this weird sensation in brightly lit or when it's completely dark it's just I see this kind of symptom in poorly lighted room
I am highly myopic with -6.5Land -7R and with lots of floaters
1.is this of concern?
2.is this something to do with vitreous gel inside eye?
3.sometimes I also feel light pulling sensation at corner of my left eye it's not like bright flashes but feeling of pulling,
I was just wondering if all this is related to vitreous gel getting loose?
Can u please give some info on this?
Thanks doctor

1. generally not
2. one of the common causes
3. no vitreous does not cause 'pulling sensation"

Hello doctor
I had previously told u I have been experiencing tiny sparks around the corner of my left eye(power is -6.5and cyl -2.5),also have lots of floaters
After doing some research on internet about the symptoms I am feeling I think what I am experiencing is viterous pulling on retina
I had this abt 3 months back( in feb 2017)so I visited an opthamalogist and he examined both eyes and said there were not any holes or anything of concern and now after that I am again experiencing the same kind of pulling on and off from 2 weeks, like 2 to 3 times a day and some days there is nothing
The viterous pulling or tugging I feel is kind gentle and it lasts for a second...
1.So is this common in my kind of power?
2.Am I right about the term viterous pulling or tugging on retina? I am asking becoz I want the correct term to tell when I visit the doc next time I have been experiencing all this time was the pulling and I did not know to explain this to doctor and I was mentioning them as tiny sparks/flashes and I am sure it doesn't feel like flash/spark
3.is viterous pulling and tugging on retina both same ?
4.is this of concern? Does this need a doc visit again? My eyes was checked by opthamalogist in February
Thank you so much for your patience and time to read my concerns and giving back a reply each time
Please would like to hear from you this time too...

The term is a PVD or posterior vitreous detachment and pulling or tugging on the retina is accurate.  Generallly if you have many more floaters especially if like smoke or ash in eyes, or lasting flashes or loss of peripheral vision yo9u should report this to your ophthalmologist.  Some people have floaters all the time but not "new one" some people have flashes when they move they eye quickly especially in the dark.

Hello doc
I am experiencing some kind of sparkle or tiny flash in periphery of my left eye(power is -6.5LE) and -7RE which lasts less than a sec I don't know what to call them, I feel these 2 to 3 times a day from past 3 to 4 days... These r not like bright flashes as u told which wld happen in case of RD..I am experiencing this on and off from few months.. some days I feel them n they r not there for few months I mean to say they r not constant
I had last checked my eyes with retina specialist in Dec 16, everything seem OK, have floaters though,I see lots of strings, dots, cobwebs most of which are transparent and few dark ones in both eyes n I feel they r increasing day by day
1.Is this of concern, I mean sparkle/tiny flash in corner of my eye, which m experiencing..?
2.in my insurance, only one eye exam a year is covered, so if it's not that urgent I wld like to wait till June for next eye exam that is at least 6 months from my last exam, I am unable to decide, please help me
3.Can floaters increase in myopic eyes without being indicating something serious?
4.How to stop these new floaters from forming? If it goes on increasing like this m scared abt future of my vision..
Thank you.. and waiting for your response

1.Is this of concern, I mean sparkle/tiny flash in corner of my eye, which m experiencing..? ANSWER: It is reassuring that you have had a recent eye exam by a retina ophthalmologist. If the frequency or intensity of these tiny flashes not increase its not likely serious.
2.in my insurance, only one eye exam a year is covered, so if it's not that urgent I wld like to wait till June for next eye exam that is at least 6 months from my last exam, I am unable to decide, please help me ANSWER The key thing would be if something or different developed light ultra bright light flash, showers of floaters, loss of peripheral vision. These would necessitate a prompt vision. If no new symptoms develop waiting should be fine.
3.Can floaters increase in myopic eyes without being indicating something serious? ANSWER YES
4.How to stop these new floaters from forming? If it goes on increasing like this m scared abt future of my vision..
Thank you.. and waiting for your response ANSWER There is no way to stop formation of floaters. They are a product of the way the vitreous gel in the back of the eye ages. No one gets younger so over time more and more people have floaters. 50% by age 50, 75% by age 75.

hello doctor, i needed some suggestions from you... i know i am asking question about floaters again and again but i am helpless, as it is very disturbing am facing daily
Recently i feel my floaters have considerably increased in both eyes especially in my left eye, i can see a lot of them in all shapes dots, cobwebs, big and small strings, few dark ones and transparent ones, i feel like i am seeing thru window glass with a surface of water drops. I try to ignore them a lot but its very dreading to look outside...i just cant stop thinking how my future will be..:(
I had my eyes checked with dilation in last week of august 2016 so from that time till now i feel my floaters have increased, i am definitely seeing many new ones than before
So my questions are
1. Is this normal ? i mean so many new floaters forming at such fast pace...? with my eye power left is -6.5 and right is -7 and i am 32 years old, my eye power is stable though
2.Do i have to visit doc again or can i wait and see how it goes?
3. I am really scared if m missing on how to judge if there is any problem with my eyes because of the increase in floaters, my mind will be constantly thinking abt retina tears, hole etc etc
4. In my last check up i was asked to take glaucoma testing as follow up...to rule out that there is nothing serious, Does this mean i am at risk of getting glaucoma? M very tensed :(
Please help me... Thank you very much

I believe these are reasonable questions but they should be asked of your eye MD ophthalmologist. Glaucoma and floaters are not related; dilating drops not related to floaters although there is a discussion thread on this website where people believe the drops caused the floaters. It would be usual and customary for your ophthalmologist's staff to relay these questions to your ophthalmologist for an answer.

Hello Doctor, am back again with my fearful doubts...please help me ease my mind..
My power -6.5left and -7right
I am experiencing flickering sensation in my left eye peripheral vision which lasts less than a sec I feel it few times a day..I don't think they r flashes though, I also have many floaters...m freaking out and not understanding what's going on with my eyes :(
Is there a need to go doctor in such situation?

If you have had a recent exam by an ophthalmologist its highly unlikely these are serious. The flashes associated with retina tear, retina detachment and posterior vitreous detachment are extremely bright like a huge lightening bolt at 3 AM on a dark night not the wimpy flickering you describe. The more attention you pay to these the more you will see them.

Hi doctor,
Power -6.5L, -7R and i wear glasses all the time, wear contact lens occassionly
I am feeling a sensation of flickering when my eyes are open, its just for a fraction of second, it is not as bright as camera flash though and it comes and goes within a sec or may be less than a second, and i feel it 3 to 4 times a day for few days and for some days there is nothing. M getting really confused and also panicking
1.what are these flickering sensations or flashes m not sure? is it a sign of retina tear/hole ?
2.I had my last eye check up in march and everything was fine then, and doc told me to get my next regular check up done after 6 months, that would be in September, but these symptoms are worrying me, should i get my eye checked asap or can i wait till September?
3. I already have a lot of floaters, as far as i can see there is no drastic change in number but few of them increased ,but they are a lot of nuisance :(
other than this sensation of flickering/flashes, my vision seems fine as of now
I highly appreciate your patience and time to answer my questions, will wait for your reply..
Thank you very much doctor.

1.what are these flickering sensations or flashes m not sure? is it a sign of retina tear/hole ?  NOT LIKELY. FLASHES FROM RD ARE LIKE LIGHTENING GOING OFF IN THE EYE.
2.I had my last eye check up in march and everything was fine then, and doc told me to get my next regular check up done after 6 months, that would be in September, but these symptoms are worrying me, should i get my eye checked asap or can i wait till September? I SUGGEST YOU CALL YOUR EYE DOCTOR DESCRIBE YOUR SYMPTOMS AND ASK FOR HIS/HER ADVICE.

other than this sensation of flickering/flashes, my vision seems fine as of now
I highly appreciate your patience and time to answer my questions, will wait for your reply..  FLOATERS ARE MUCH MORE COMMON IN THOSE OF US THAT ARE MYOPIC. I'VE HAD SINCE AGE 10. HOPEFULLY BY NEUROADAPTATION YOU'LL LEARN HOW TO IGNORE THEM.

1. I can't tell you why you have dull pain. If you have seen 4 eye doctors most or all of whom are eye MD ophthalmologists it not likely serious.
2. Glasses can cause a pulling sensation of they are not the proper RX or if the lens have fabrication errors or the frames are not comfortable or out of line. Most people with your RX see much better with contact lens or LASIK
3. Floaters are common in high myopia
4. Yes you can live a normal life. many distinguished physicians and surgeons I know are more myopic that you are. You can choose any career you want.
5. Peace and calm are rare commodities in this troubled war fill, hate laced world and I have no suggestions for finding peace of mind.

You should call your ophthalmologist and report your findings tomorrow and go by their recommendations. It is common to have flashes, in the dark with rapid eye movements and not be due to retinal tears, holes or detachment.

Hello doc... Thank you for your patience and answering my questions promptly.
I am feeling my eyes are disturbing my peace of mind :(
I recently in early march have checked my eyes for power, retina, eye pressure doc said everything seems OK now but my left eye is bothering  me a lot I have low pain from inside and also feel pulling sensation from time to time I don't know wat's this I mentioned this to doc they said it might b due to dry eyes n gave me drops for that... Is that all that's happened to my eyes m confused a lot I don't know if I need to visit doc again... I have already had 4 doc visits past 8 months
1. Why am I feeling this dull pain n pulling sensation? Power is-6.5left n -7right n also have many floaters
2.can't I lead a normal life with this power? I think I have a healthy life style n doesn't work on computer or phone for long time but still facing eye problems? If this is case how else should I take care of it,how will i stay peace n calm in my daily life if my eyes are bothering me so much :( ?

Not a symptom of myopia. Too many causes to give you any useful list of possibilities. Discuss with your ophthalmologist if it persists.

Almost everyone with your degree of myopia has floaters and the number of floaters increases was your eye ages.  Worrisome symptoms are dramatic sudden increase of floaters that are small, look like smoke or soot in the eye associated with flashes or loss of peripheral vision. If you have no family history of RD the risk of having a RD for you is less than 1 in 1000

myelinated nerve fibers is not anything that is serious and does not interfere with the vision. It is common.
