Myopia and retinal detatchment

I last asked you about shimmering and now have an appointment with a neuro-opthamologist.  My question today is about severe myopia and retinal detatchment.  If the two are often related, as I have seen you report, would it do me any good to have the laser surgery to improve my nearsightedness.  In other words, would this lessen my odds of retinal detatchment which seems to go along with severe myopia?  Thanks in advance.

The risk of retinal detachment in people with myopia is related to the overall shape of the eye.  Laser vision correction only changes the shape of the cornea and has no effect on the retina.
It will not reduce your risk of retinal detachment.
