Myopia in 3 years child

Myopia in 3 years child

My child is 3 years old male. We notice that he watchs TV closely. The opthamogist revealed that he is myope -7 and -4.5 and adviced a glasses. I want to know the expected progression epspecially that he is 3 years old. I want also to know how to decrease rate of progression and if there is a risk of retinal detachement.
N.B  me and his mother are myopes -7 and -9.

Many thanks

Trying to determine how myopic your child will be at 3 years old is like trying to guess how tall he'll be. Can't do it. Most likely he will get more myopic since that's what usually happens and your and your wife are very myopic.

The risk of RD is increased over the usual risk of 1 in 7500 to perhaps 1 in 500 to 1000.

There are no proven methods to stop myopia from progressing. We know that bifocals and not letting the child do near tasks like color books and computers doesn't help.

You can use the search feature to read the many very thorough discussions of experimental medicines including atropine and another drop that is experimental

Be sure you child is seeing an ophthalmologist Eye MD.
