Myopia

Dear Sir/Madam
My son is 15 years old and have a high Myopia -7 in both eyes, had -5 two years ago. I live in St. Petersburg and doctor suggested to make an operation-it is called Skleroplastika and as I was told we can do it only in Russian, because most of doctors refuse to do this kind of operation.  My biggest fear is that if we won't do operation and his vision will continue to decrease, what should we do then?  He also has many rashes on face. Maybe it is somehow connected? What will be your suggestion? I would appreciate any advice you give me.
Kind Regards,
Thank you in advance

There are no controlled studies that shows it works.  For what is worth, I recently removed cataracts from a patient who moved to the states many years ago and had that surgery.  She was about -14 in one eye and -18 in the other.  Of course one could argue that it could have been worse.
