Myopic (Wet) Macular Degeneration

Myopic (Wet) Macular Degeneration

I had this condition since last year. My first doctor gave the diagnosis as Exudative Macular Degeneration. I feel it's more like Myopic Macular Degeneration. It just happened in a sec, a blood vessel behind  center retina broken, the blood leaves permanent damage on my retina, photo shows tissue grows under. I don't have center vision on my right eye. I can't see detail, very difficult to read. Recently changed to another doctor, told me if I were visited him first, he'd inject something stop the damage to the retina. Very upset....
But he didn't give me anything else, like what I should do stop this from happening to the other eye. To him it all matters of good or bad luck.
What are the chances this would happen to the other good eye? Is there any treatment? Over the past year, I have seen vision improvement, but now seems stopped I guess due to the tissue. I have seen article talked about fish oil etc helps. but my doctor said I should stop taking fish oil, VE, etc, as they would think blood. Confused...

The difference between myopic wet mac degen and age related mac degen are sometimes hard to tell but the treatment is the same usually injection into the eye of lucentis or avastin.

It's unlike, as you were told by second MD, that injections wouldhave saved your vision. That's because the loss of vision occurred in just a second. The injections can keep about 75% of wet Mac deg from getting worse once their started. If vision is bad before injection its not helped much. If vision isn't bad before injection still 25% get worse.

Your second eye is at high risk whether its due to ARMD or myopic wet MD. Perhaps as high as 10-15%.

You can use the search feature and archives and visit Dr. hagan's blog to see what you can do to slow dry ARMD and reduce the risk of wet ARMD from developing. These measure have not been proved to slow macular wet ARMD but are still worth doing
