Myopid Degeneration

Hi, I'm a 25 year old female with -9.5 vision in both eyes. In November of last year I noticed a blind spot resulting from lacquer cracks and a small retinal hole. It was in my central vision but I learnt to see around it and was just getting past it when my left retina tore extensively. The left eye is now unuseable and I have been depending on my right eye. In the last two months my right eye has had more and more floaters and blurred vision. I don't know how long I can keep working for. I am an attorney and in my second year of employment. I work at a computer for at least 12 hours a day. Is this making my myopic degeneration progress more quickly? I am a healthy weight, have a good diet and dont understand why this is happening so quickly and agressively. Is there anything I can do to slow it down? I dont know what I can do if I lose my vision. I finally started a career and have worked so hard for this. I don't even know if I can see enough to go to work tomorrow.

Please let me know if there are typically any factors which aggravate this condition.

I would get a second opinion from another retimal Eye MD in the NY area. If nothing else it will make you feel better.

In spite of over 50 years of study the role of near work in the development and progression of myopia is not fully understood. Certainly I do not feel anyone would tell you to give up your career as a lawyer nor restrict your reading or computer use.
