Need info on disability for eye reasons

As I posted earlier, I have had 13 proceedures in my right eye over a 2year period.  I have had several detached retinasand some other issues with the macula, I currently have oil in my eye.  It has been in for 4 weeks, Myhis  vision is VERY distorted, and I cannot read a computer screen at all with my right eye.  I get a lot of ghost vision especially if I try to use both eyes.  It is very uncomfortable to keep my right eye closed  to drive or read I have to.  I only drive when I have to and very limited area and no night or bad weather driving. My left eye has it's own problem, I am very near sighted, and I have a floater which my doctor described as 100 times the size of a normal floater.  When this floater gets in the center of vision, I cannot read or see a computer screen at all. Thankfully, it clears up within seconds by looking around and getting it to move.  The original plan was when my right eye was back to normal he would take the fluid from my left eye and clear it up.  Now we both agree that it would be better to just deal with the floater for now....  My question is, my job, which I really like, involves working at a computer most of the day, just typing this has given me a headache, what is the legal requirements on disability due to eye problems?

To be qualified as disabled under Social Security you must be unable to do your current/previous work, and there must be no other work that you can do based on your disability and your disability has to last a year or more. For more information visit the social security online site. www.ssa.gov.

Also, you have to meet the SSA's legal definition of disablity. The definition of visual impairment or legal blindness is that with best correction your better eye must have a visual acuity of 20/200 or worse. Or your best corrected visual field at its widest must be no more than 20 degrees. Please, note that the definition is WITH BEST CORRECTION in the BETTER EYE. That means with corrective lenses, glasses or contacts (although, for a field test glasses can not be used, because they restrict your field)! (The big E on the snellen chart is 20/400, the letters directly below the big E, in many cases it's S & L, but it varies, is 20/200)

You can contact your state's vocational rehabilitation center for help in modifying your work environment to accomodate your vision loss.  Many accomodations exist for computer use for individuals with visual impairment.
