New distance glasses making it impossible to read!

Hi
I’ve just bought a new pair of glasses that are causing me a lot of problems. I’ve been wearing glasses for over 10 years. My new prescription is something like -4.00 and -4.25 w/ astigmatism (my previous prescription was -3.75 and -4.00 w/ astigmatism).
The new glasses allow me to see distant objects perfectly however I’m now unable to read. When I wear them and attempt to read, all the words are blurry and I get a massive headache! Even while typing the keyboard letters seem to be completely blurred. When I take them off and don’t wear any glasses I’m able to read perfectly. So I know I don’t need reading glasses.
I went to  the optometrist who checked the lenses and said they were made to specification. She  told me that I have to wear them for a week to get used to them. Of course, that’s impossible, since I can’t possibly do any work. I have however tried them on the weekend and I eventually end up with a horrendous head ache.
I went back yesterday and she just looked at me funny and said I didn’t try hard enough (no idea what that’s supposed to mean). I never had any problems adjusting to new prescriptions. I’m using my old glasses right now.
I’m not sure if my prescription is too strong, or something else. I’d love some ammunition to use when I visit her next.
Would love to hear opinions!
Thanks!

They its likely that you're "over minused"   ask for your money back or ask to have, at no charge to you, new lens put in your new frames that are identical to the old glasses that you read okay in.

Hiya!

Just to clarify, I'm 26. And when I wear my old glasses I can read properly. (I've even tried with my older glasses from 5 years ago, and still can read properly).

Cheers!

Your best option is to ask for your money back and return the glasses if your'e not happy.

If you are near or over 40 this may be a sign you need bifocals. It could also be that the glasses are too strong if you are much younger. Your glasseses test should be done after dilation (post cycloplegic refraction).

I suspect you are on or at the edge of needing bifocals. This is called presbyopia
