Newborn eye issue

by mkitt, Nov 03, 2009 11:56AM
My 2 week old baby has 1 eye that has become lighter in color, the pupil is not in the center of the iris and reacts differently (under dialation) then the other eye. She has a small white line that runs horizontally accross the iris and kind of curves around in the pupil. We went to a Pediactric Opthamologist who had never seen this before all in one eye. He thought for sure she could not see in the eye until he dialated it and it responded. We can not find anyone who has seen all this before. Has anyone seen this or heard of this before?

Did the doctor give you a specific diagnosis? If you feel unclear as to what is wrong with your baby's eye, and what treatments might be needed to maximize vision development, consider getting a second opinion from another pediatric Eye MD.  Your description is not specific enough for me to hazard as guess about the diagnosis.

Dear mkitt,

I would recommend that you seek the care of another specialist and ask your pediatric ophthalmologist to assist in referring you.  This might represent an anomaly of development but it is important to assess at this point.
