My niece is now 12 days old and she cannot open her eyes. When she was born we asked at the hospital why she would not open her eyes and the nurses kept telling us that she would open them tomorrow; it is now 11 days later and she still will open them. She opened them for a second or town one or two times. Should we be alarmed?
It would be best to have the baby checked by an Eye MD who specializes in children and infants. You can find one at www.aapos.org. Although the baby may be fine, it is indeed unusual to have no eye opening for almost 2 weeks. I am assuming that she is a full term healthy baby.
