Newborn with pterygium-like appearance

At birth:

Lacking the feathered appearance of petrygium,  a small section of white is impinging on the clear cornea over the outer edge of the iris, semicircular perhaps 0.8 mm radius, with well defined margins.

Is there a better descriptive term?
What could it be?

Sounds like a limbal dermoid.  The baby should be assessed by a pediatric ophthalmologist as limbal dermoids, although benign, can cause problems with astigmatism.  They can be surgically removed but this is not always indicated, especially at a young age.
