No medical ethics for lasik surgeons

No medical ethics for lasik surgeons

i had normal vision before lasik.when i consulted a hospital for regular eye checkup.they insisted for lasik and said lasik was almost 100% risk free.i had done lasik and post 2 months i got floaters.thus lasik made permenant damage to eye.now lasik docs says nothing can be done for floaters.i made a huge mistake of doing lasik because lasik was just a cosmetic surgery and there is no medical urgency to do a lasik. does lasik surgeons dont learn medical ethics in their eye school or only wanted to make money.my lasik docs says floaters are harmless and such like things.what can i do for this floaters.any lasik floaters are highly annoying and what i can do for it.any idea any docs????????

You did not have normal vision before lasik or there would have been no reason for glasses, contacts or considering lasik surgery. Second "almost risk free" is not the same as risk free. Flying a commercial airliner and driving an automobile are "almost risk free" but airliners do crash and kill people as do automobiles. Nothing in life is risk free especially surgery.

Vitreous floaters are part of aging but can occur in children, infants and young adults.  The lasik may or may not have caused floaters no once can tell for sure.

Use the search feature and archives to read about floaters. I don't see any ethical problems here.

sorry for criticizing the whole eye docs, but i mean lasik is just a cosmetics surgery.lasik surgeons should tell about the possibility of floaters in the consent form.i only read in lasik consent form about small power remaining, dry eye etc and also 'blindness'.i am  student and i have to read a lot of things for academics, floaters annoys me while learning etc.can i overcome and adjust to the floaters

Well since I've had floaters since about age 11 or 12 and anytime I want can see swarms on the computer screen I empathize with you. Almost everyone can tune them out with intrinisic neuroadaptive mechanisms. The more you think about them the more you will be aware of them.

Have your eyes checked by an ophthalmologist eye MD. Ask about strength training. If the retina is normal there is no reason not to do if you enjoy it. That type of exercise does not cause floaters.

doc, when i read in the internet about floaters, there is a mention that vitreous detachment can cause retinal tears.i consulted the doc one month back and he made a complete dilated check up for my eyes and found no problem with retina. Is any need of periodic checkup of eyes like every six months or so for identifying any new retinal holes.

Yes LASIK is unnecessary surgery in most cases when the patient is comfortable wearing glasses or contact lenses as LASIK will not rectify elongated eye balls.

Also most LASIK specialized doctors do not tell the patients about risks like floaters, dry eye, halos, retina detachment etc even if the chances are very low. They don't tell because its a business & they don't care about future discomforts of people.

Floaters usually doesn't cause future harm to eyes even if its bit annoying at first, after some period like 6 months or so we will be used to live with it without any discomforts.

its normal to see some red veins in white part of eye due to various reasons like trauma, bruise & sometimes with no reason at all; some of them are temporary & some permanent if this is creating problems like blurring, pain etc then consult eye doctor near you.
