Non-Dominant Eye for Distance

Non-Dominant Eye for Distance

Please bear with me. I have 2 questions:

My left eye has the cataract. My dominant right eye is nearsighted. My surgeon has recommended using a monofocus lens to set my non-dominant left eye for distance. This makes sense, except that everywhere I've looked, it's recommended to set only the dominant eye for distance. Are there any known issues in setting the non-dominant eye to distance?

He also mentioned that if I were to set the non-dominant left eye for near-vision, when the time comes for surgery in my dominant right eye, I would not be able to set it for distance. Any insights or other opinions on this?

Thanks.

I would recommend setting the dominant eye for distance.  I do not agree with his assessment in the second paragraph.
