Normal light response?

When i shined a light in my eyes my pupils constricted but a second later they return to normal size
while the light is still shinning in my eye is this a normal response if i take the light down then shine it in my eyes again they constrict and do the same thing they don't get dilated but it is a significant change in size from being constricted when it happens
