Not something else!!! Need help!!!

I was dx with BC in 12/07 and had 4 surgeries from 8/07 - 10/08 and radiation 3/08 - 5/08. Then just dx with Fibro and going through Pain Management for the Fibro. I went to get my eyes checked as always every two years, ths time they used an Optomap a new machine to see behind the retina. Now a have what they call a Macular pucker. Does anyone have this or has had surgery for this? I really do not want to have surgery this year - need my body to get stronger. Once dx - how long before surgery follows? Please, I would appreciate any help at his point. I am on the Breast Cancer, Fibro and Pain Management board here and we can always find support here. I thankful that we can help each other out. So my question still is - how long can I wait before I have surgery. Right now my eye doctor said that the right eye still has good vision - it is not really that bad now. She referred me to a specialist for this. I have not yet even made an appointment. I really would like to wait considering everything I have been through. Can you recommend something? I appreciate all the help I can get. I really look for support on MedHelp - it has really help me alot. Sunshine

First most macular puckers do not progress.  One of the easier pars plana vitrectomy procedures.

I really do hope you get better!!!!

Surgery for macular pucker depends on the severity of the scar tissue. If your vision if really distorted than surgery should be considered. However, if the distortion is mild and does not interfere much with your daily activities you can hold off on surgery and just be carefully monitored by the doctor.

If you do have surgery, the doctor will probably perform a vitrectomy and membrane peel (use of diamond coated forceps to carefully remove the epiretinal membrane). Luckily, in most cases of macular pucker surgery no face-down positioning is required post-op.

Stay well!!!
