Nystagmus in Newborn

I have noticed that my newborn (now 5 weeks old but was 3 weeks when I first noticed) moves her eyes rapidly from left to right ONLY when she is hungry and I initially put the pacifier (while the bottle is warming) or the bottle in her mouth. I have researched and researched and can only find Nystagmus as the possible reason. I had her one month check-up yesterday and mentioned it to her dr and he said to wait until she is 2 months old and if the symptoms are still there then he will refer me to a neurologist.  He thinks it will go away and that she is just voluntarily making these movements. My question is can a newborn move their eyes rapidly left to right and it NOT be Nystagmus?

You need to discuss with your pediatrician and see a pediatric ophthalmologist in the near future. Only by looking at the eye can it be determined if this is nystagmus or normal or accentuated "saccadic" eye movements or normal or "physiological end point nystagmus".
