ONH inheritence

I've posted before, and I appreciate your help.

My youngest daughter has optic nerve hypoplasia. She wasn't diagnosed until almost 3 months of age. We have another daughter due in September. Can we have her eyes examined immediately, or do we need to wait a certain amount of time? I am tempted to schedule an appointment with the ophthalmologist immediately after her birth. Would this be acceptable, or is it overkill?

Presumably your youngest daughter is under the care of a comprehensive ophthalmologist (Eye MD) or Pediatric Ophthalmologist. You might discuss this with him/her. Newborns can be examined immediately after birth. Since there is no good treatment to prevent or treat optic nerve hypoplasia, the best reason for an early exam is so you "know one way or the other".
