Ocular Migraines and Heart Issues

by bzmed, Jun 28, 2007 12:00AM
Hi,  I have a question about ocular migraines.  I am a 45 year old woman with a heart valve problem (moderate mitral regurgitation due to MVP and possible hereditary connective tissue disorder).  My ocular migraines started in 1999.  What is the lastest information regarding these types of vision problems in association with heart problems?

Thank you!

Heart problems and vascular problems can cause symptoms that are very similiar. Ophthalmologists have to work through tests to be sure something is migraine and not heart, blood vessel or brain problems.

There is a much stonger relationship between family history of migraines and use of birth control pills or estrogens or pregnancy in females than connection with heart problems.

Short summary is that they are two separate problems that can cause similiar symptoms.

By the way migraine problems tend to get better as people get older while heart problems tend to get worse.

what kind of tests should be done to identify the cause if related to heart disease or twitches in the ocular area of the brain?
