Optic nerve Hypoplasia

My son was born with Optic nerve Hypoplasia in his right eye and has no vision at all out of this eye i have been told there is research in this field working with stem cells wich is looking realy positive. Could you please let me know of any progresse or any name of specialist Doctors in this Field or clinics in the U.K? my son is 11 yrs old now & i would be extreamly greatfull if you could find the time to reply to my question thnx again

Unfortunately, the research is still in development.  Given he has it in one eye, it is unlikely that any currently available treatments would benefit him as the brain will forget about the weaker eye and use his normal eye.  Children who have vision in only one eye tend to do well and adjust very well to life (learning to use monocular cues etc.).  He should still be able to have a fully normal life with some coordination difficulties only when it comes to sports (I've seen some kids even do OK in sports).  Very important for him to wear protection for his good eye as soon as he is old enough though to prevent injury to his only eye.
