Optic nerve malignant tumor

Optic nerve malignant tumor

I was diagnosed with a malignant tumor on my optic nerve three years ago. Since that time the tumor has not spread but I have lost complete eyesight in that eye. The glaucoma that has developed and muscle failure causes me chronic pain. This is being addressed by 5 different eye drops 2x a day. The surgeon who has treated me tells me that the only option left is to remove the eye. s this my only option? Thank you, Jim

Jim, malignant optic nerve tumors are not that common and there are a few excellent referral centers that specialize in this sort of thing.  I strongly recommend Wills Eye Hospital in Philadelphia, PA if you can make it there.  Also, Bascom Palmer Eye Institute in Miami, FL.  You need to take the advice of specialized experts in orbital and ocular tumors before you make your decision.
