PRK for higher corrections

by hifno, Oct 11, 2007 01:29PM
My eyes are -7.75D with a little astigmatism.  Due to thin corneas, my doctor recommended PRK over LASIK.  After doing some more research on PRK, I have read the PRK is not a recommended for diopters > -6.0 due to increased corneal haze.  Is this still the case?  Should I be worried that my correction is too strong for PRK?

Your concerns are legitimate.  It doesn't mean that PRK is completely out of the question - but will have higher risk of haze.  I suggest you get a second opinion from a Lasik/PRK expert.  I know that Vitamin C and Mitocycin are being used by some to reduce haze - so that might be something your doctor might be considering.
