PVD - worsening symptom

PVD - worsening symptom

Hi

I am 30 years old female.  I have congenital strabismus of the left eye, twice corrected surgically.  I am very farsighted, and  last year found out i also have astigmatism in both eyes.  I wear glasses and corrected vision is 20/30.

In the last 6 months, i started having problems with glare and working at a computer under flourescnet lighting.  I feel as though i can't read or see well and need more light.  in Daylight i can see fine.

In the July i started seeing lightning bolts and sparkles and and floaters.  I ened up at the hospital and they verrified my retina was ok and diagnosed me with PVD.  Recently (last week or so) i am having a lot more trouble with the glare an other issues.  I'm at my computer now and see floaters every couple minutes and also it looks like the text has a green shadow and blury spots that seem to move around.  At night I am seeing rainbow halos around all streetlights and cars.  My eyes also feel itchy my opthamologist told me they were dry.

As my left eye is already consideribly weaker than my right due to the strabismus (i can't read with it alone) i am very concerned as all th flashes and floaters are in my good eye (my right one).  Will the PVD  cause all these glare and  halos?

Hello summerluvr   A PVD would likely not cause all these symptoms. Your eye needs re-evaluation. Trouble with night light in an older patient is often a symptom of cataracts (clouding of the lens of the eye). They can occur in young people. High farsightedness doesn't increase the risk of retina detachment as does high myopia. Your strabismus condition often runs in families and anyone related to you by blood has a 20% chance of strabismus and/or amblyopia. Be sure all very young children are checked by a ophthalmologist, possible a pediatric ophthalmologist by age 2 and a half (immediately if misaligned eyes are noticed).

For itchy eyes (often a sign of allergy) try Zaditor allergy eyedrops available over the counter and for dry, hot, burning eyes one of the many good artificial tears such as hypotears, soothe, systane or refresh products.

Get back and see the Eye MD of your choice.

Thank you very much.

You are correct the strabismus does run in my family, my mother and maternal grandmother both had the same eye condition (strabismus)

I will phone my Eye Dr and ask about re-evaluating me.  I just didn't want to bother her if if wasn't anything major as she is very busy and its hard to get an appointment. (i am in Canada, and most specialist here have a long wait time to get itno see them)

update

I went to see my opthamologist. She dialed the eye and looked in and said she didn't see antyhing.  she did the test with the yellow eye drop.  She seemed anoyed like i was making up my problems.  finally when i said this is interfering with my life, both work and homelife she agreed to send me for a CT and said "but i doubt it'll find anything".  I also had an ERG but have not had the results yet.

my eyes are still bothering me.

My night vision is bad.  All lights have halos and lines off them.  (Sun is also unbearable, looking at the sun literally hurts my eyes, i need sunglasses or i can't go out)

reading text on the computer the lines i'm looking at are fuzzy and grey where as teh rest are black. Reading off paper the part i'm looking at has a yellow tint and the text has a green shadow.

have a low grade headache in my right temple forehead for a week or two that tyelenol/advil wont  touch, and both eyes have some pain around them kind of like sinus pain (but i'm not sick and havent' been).

I dl'd the grid test and the verticle lines don't look straight to me, the zig zag a little  and the square don't line up instead they are lkind of offset, like bricks slightly.

should i get a second opinion?  Its been going on for about 6 weeks.  Im too young to have to just live with this... there must be a reason?

I would not rush into a second opinion until the results of your tests are know.  I would suggest you review all of the tests with the Eye MD.  If your symptoms continue ask the Eye MD whether they would suggest a neurologist of a neuro-ophthalmologist for another opinion.
