Hi:  Have not been on this forum for a long time.  I did have a cataract and had cataract surgery recently.  That was successful.  Thanks for the answers on the weiss ring; that is what it is.  I asked my new cataract surgeon since the other doctors i have don't do cataracts what it was and that is it.  I believe he said that my pvd is complete.  My flashes are settling down a lot and my floaters are really tiny; i have double vision but that will clear up.  Should i get another laser for the weiss ring or leave it alone?  I see it very faintly now on the computer screen; when i wake up in the morning it is right in front of me.  Can it move away from your vision eventually?  Thanks Dr. Hagan; sorry for not replying back have been through an ordeal and have been caretaking for my mother helping my dad out.  Barbara.  Nice to hear back from you.  I was frightened by this but not anymore.  How do I look at lights at night through the vitreous?  I see its webbed shape on the lights; will that improve since I just had cataract surgery?  Thanks Dr. Hagan.  barbara.

Hello Barb.  A Weiss ring is where the posterior vitreous face attaches around the optic nerve, with a PVD if the Weiss ring is pulled loose it will have many shapes depending on whether it tears and becomes more elongated or how it rotates. (think about a dounut. If you look at it from the side it is round with a hole in the middle, if you look at it from the end it is a vertile solid line with no hole). Your "Mickey Mouse" might be a Weiss Ring.

With all floaters there are about three options: 1. They fall to the bottom of the eye and you don't see them. 2. They move towards the front of the eye and make a less distinct shadow on the retina and are easy to ignore.  3. they stay close to the retina and make a distinct shadow on the retina which you either learn to ignore or you concentrate on and see it all the time  or you can tune then in and out depending on where you direct your mental spotlight.

Hi Dr. John Hagan; this is barb; i am finally not afraid of my floaters anymore; i do see a three ring that looks like mickey mouse; it might be scar tissue.  Also; when pvd completes does that mean the symptoms resolve naturally?  My retinal surgeon said possible pvd.  I am seeing the strings and a few squigglies have named a few of them and am getting used to them finally.  It took a while it was frightening; but if it is pvd; what happens when that is over and also what does a weiss ring look like?  Thanks Dr. Hagan; this has not been an easy summer; i started this in march after i had laser treatment.  Thanks for any advice.  Hope you are doing well.  My husband has been very supportive and i have met a lot of people with floaters and that helped me through this and is still helping me.  I am glad that floaters don't harm your vision so i can still work on the computer.  Thank you.  Hope to hear from you soon.  I get them 24/7 but am finally accepting them but it would be nice not having them.  Thanks
