Pain behide eye with every movement

I have a pain behide my eye, it's extremely painful with every slight movement and everytime I blink.  This will last for 3 - 4 weeks before disappearing for a few months and then it will come back.  I struggle to sleep for more than a couple of hours because the pain wakes me up.

The pain starts at the back of my left eyeball / eyebrow and then goes right around my skull.

No over-the-counter painkillers help, they don't even ease the pain, the only things which help is sniffing peppermint oil and applying pressure to my eyeball - but they only provide temporary relief and the pain soon comes back.

I forgot to mention, as the weeks go on and the pain remains, my eye starts to become red and appears bloodshot.
