Pain continues in right eye from toxoplasmosis

by 888mom, Jul 28, 2009 01:55AM
Still have pain in my right eye from toxoplasmosis.  Lost some vision which retinal specialist says is permanent.  He said there was no course of treatment because he didn't see inflammation in my eye.  But, how long is this intermittant eye pain supposed to last?  And if I am still having eye pain that's pretty bad a week later, how can that mean my toxoplamosis is back in the dormant state?

Pain is not a consistent feature of toxoplasmosis. You would need to get specifics from your retina surgeon. If he thinks there should not be pain investigate other causes.

Did go back.  He thinks now toxo is a red herring for something else going on.  am now having an MRI done.  The toxo did reactivate and was bigger, but he said it was back to dormant and should not be causing eye pain.  He also thought the toxo might have reactivated awhile back and not the cause of the vision loss at all.  Not sure what MRI will bring, but at least he says that he isn't looking for a tumor.  He said something about a lot of disorders, such as MS that could cause vision loss.  He ruled out glaucoma, macular degeneration, cataract, diabetes, etc.  I do have an autoimmune disorder, that the docs thought  might be either lupus or mixed connective tissue disorder or something they haven't figured out yet.  Everytime I move I get a new doc and a new rhumatologist and they seem to start all over from scratch. Last one I had a year ago was going to do an MRI to check for MS at one point but new doc up here thought there was no need to.  I hate moving and switching docs, but if you gotta move to where the jobs are, you gotta move.  Otherwise it's no health insurance and no food on the table.

Well new care is better than no care at all. Good luck with your problem
